- Administrative history / biographyHoo Highway Board covered the parishes of All Hallows, Cooling, High Halstow, St. James' (Grain), Hoo St. Mary's, and Stoke. The first meeting took place at the Five Bells Inn, Hoo, on 30 July 1869, with Mr W. Meers as the first chairman. In later years the Board usually met at the Bull Inn, Rochester. Highway Boards were abolished under the Local Government Act 1894 and their functions were taken over by the newly created district councils. Hoo Rural District Council superseded Hoo Highway Board (see collection HRDC).
