The Napier Schools on Napier Road, Gillingham, first opened in 1905. Children were admitted by order of the Education Committee as follows: "those not attending any elementary school in the Borough; transfer from other schools which are further for them to travel to; Standard 1 detained since May 1905 at Byron and Barnsole Road Schools". In September 1905 280 boys and 271 girls were admitted. By the 1930s the school was being referred to as the County School, Gillingham. The Boys' and Girls' Schools combined in 1958 to become the Napier Secondary (Mixed) School, opening on 11 September 1958. In 1977, the school moved to premises in Third Avenue (previously the Gillingham Boys' Grammar School).
