It is thought that this congregation first assembled in Cross Street, Gillingham, moving to Arden Street sometime by 1887. Originally a United Methodist Free Church, it became United Methodist in 1907 and Methodist by the early 1930s. By 1932 the congregation was based at Third Avenue, Gillingham, and known as St. Paul's Church.
