This society had its origins in the Bible Christian congregation which met in Manor Street, Old Brompton, in about 1815. Approximately five years later they built their own church in Park Road, New Brompton (now Marlborough Road), also known as Bethesda Church, and worshipped there until 1887 (see M5/2/Bd). This church was sold in that year, which was Queen Victoria's Jubilee year, and the society moved to new premises in Trafalgar Street, Gillingham, and hence was known as Jubilee Church. The society became United Methodist in 1907 and Methodist in 1932. In around 1964 the premises were rebuilt and renamed St. Peter's Methodist Church.
