    Beryl Mason was born in Chatham, Kent, in 1921. Shestudied at Italia Conti's stage school as a child, and started her theatre career in 1934 when she appeared on stage at the Holborn Empire in 'Where the Rainbow Ends'. She then appeared in Andre Charlot's 'Young Ladies' at the Vaudeville Theatre, followed by two musicals with Bobby Howes, Cicily Courtneidge and Jack Hubert. During the Second World War she toured with ENSA around Britain. After the War Beryl turned towards comedy, touring the country and appearing in London in the west end and the 'Q' Theatre in Kew. In 1955 she appeared on a number of television adverts and a weekly live 'admag' programme called 'Send for Saunders', as well as a number of tv productions including 'Crossroads'. During the 1960s and 1970s Beryl returned to the stage where she appeared alongside actors such as Sid James, Hugh Lloyd and John Inman. Beryl retired from the theatre in 1973.

    Two scrapbooks kept by Beryl Mason relating to her career in theatre, television and film. The scrapbooks include newspaper cuttings (from local Medway newspapers, other regional newspapers, and national newspapers), cuttings from magazines (such as Theatre World), photographs, theatre programmes and other promotional material. The first volume also includes hand written notes/comments from Beryl.
